A Haunting But Beautiful Shoegaze Jam
A little experiment I was working on last week. Mostly trying to figure out how to create melodies using the tremolo bar. It's a work in progress but I had fun trying to create this. It's tricky to get a good balance of timbre from "dives" while keeping your guitar relatively in tune. A bit of a haunting effect!

    What gauge strings do you use? I was wondering if heavier gauge would be more consistent to pluck? I have some 9 gauge on right now and it feels kinda easy to "over-pluck" on the high strings.

    Hi Trevor, I am still learning music theory. Although, at time-code 3:32 when you say you move by 3rds or 5ths do you mean intervals. I still get degrees and intervals confused. I believe intervals is about the relationship or distance between two notes. Correct? So are you saying to create smooth common tones you want to keep the interval movement between chord movements to 3rds or 5ths?

    hey man how do you record your videos? I tried recording some shoe gaze stuff and bought a shure sm57 to record but whenever i record with the littlest of gain my recording cuts off. What program do you use? I've been using audacity.

    Hoŵ is the last a triplet grouped in four, to me that just sounded like a 4/4 beat. I'm not a musician whatsoever, have patience with my ignorance pls, thanks.

      Yeah it does in a way, it's all about how it fits into the rest of what you're playing. Because the lowest common factor is 12 between 4 and 3 this would be identical for 3 bars of 4 or 4 bars of 3. Make sense? The difference is where in a different signature it would cut off part way through in comparison to 4/4. Edit: a diagram maybe help 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 Vs. 1 2 3 | 4 1 2 | 3 4 1 | 2 3 4 Means you can fit cool phrasings into different time signatures. It can give such a different feel to your music and separate out layers.

    This is a great way to think about odd time signatures, for example 4/5, 6/7 7/16, do this with Indian traditional t8ne signature, its fun
